3 Email Marketing Tips to Convert Leads into Customers in Minutes

by James Bridges on June 1, 2011

People are naturally skeptical.  The phrase “it sounds too be to be true” was invented long before the internet was created.  Now with intense landing pages, Facebook marketing tabs, killer contests, and yes identity theft people are becoming more skeptical about turning over their personal information.  Even the most compelling sales letter landing page can have prospects clicking away for another opportunity.

As you are launching your online marketing campaigns it is a certainty that you will get leads that only have an email address and a name.  You might be thinking, why can’t I just require a phone number?  You could require a phone number and then two likely events will occur.

  1. Bogus Phone Numbers
  2. Lower Optin Rate

Neither option is a good option.  Provide users the opportunity to give you a phone number and they will; however, the majority will still just provide you with an email address.  How do you capitalize on these prospects that only provide their email?

Transform leads into Sales with the right Email Follow Up

Converting email only prospects into paying customers can increase your sales by 30% or more each year.  With a small investment in time and some in automation you can create revenue where other business owners say “those leads aren’t serious”.  Consider the following email marketing methods.

  1. Quick Personal Response – When someone opts in to your page, do you have a canned response that says “thank you for your optin”?  Ditch the instant automatic response and put in a personal touch.  Send them an email that says “saw you on my site, be happy to speak with you”.  Try a few different email responses to see what generates the best response and when you have one that consistently gets them writing back, make it automatic.
  2. Email Autoresponder – Email autoresponders once got a bad name because people misused them.  An well written email series can build rapport, pique interest, and compel prospects to take action.  Consider writing an email follow up sequence that lasts 90 days or longer.  Craft emails that add value, share stories from other clients, and compel your prospects to take the next step in your sales cycle (call you, visit your store, etc). There are a few powerful and cheap autoresponders (i.e. less than $20 a month) such as GetResponse and Aweber which means nearly every business can have an autoresponder working for them.
  3. Select Group Blasts – As leads pile up in your autoresponder you can get these prospects to take action by sending out a “blast email”. For example you could send out a group email to everyone who opted in from a particular month.  Let them know you have a unique opportunity for them.  You could offer everything from a sale to special event.  In more advanced autoresponder (i.e. supercharged ones like InfusionSoft) you can send emails to those who have bought certain products or been in your database a certain amount of time.

When you put a quick personal response into action, have an email autoresponder working for you and selectively send group emails you can generate more sales from your “email only” leads in minutes.
